About P (a + d)

Caroline Porter started Porter Architecture + Design with the main purpose of widening the Austin and Central Texas residential and small business community's access to smart, cost-sensitive designs.  Working with existing buildings is her passion, whether in the context of renovations, preservation, or additions. Helping clients realize their goals within their budgets, while maximizing the beauty, spaciousness, and functionality of the spaces around them, is the foundation of her practice.

Caroline graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with her degree in architecture, and prior to relocating to Austin in 2003, her hands-on architectural experience included stone restoration of 15th century city walls in Stockholm, Sweden, and the adaptive reuse and renovation of a 150-year old cabin outside of Uppsala, Sweden.

Prior to setting out on her own, she worked for ARCHITEXAS, a historic preservation-focused architecture firm in Austin, from 2004-2011. There, she honed her skills as both a team-player and as a project leader, working on several complex projects including multiple historic county courthouses across Texas, new administrative facilities for Ellis County, multiple Texas State Park CCC restorations, the LBJ Library and Museum , and the Susanna Dickinson Museum restoration in downtown Austin.  Her responsibilities at ARCHITEXAS included performing extensive historic documentation, providing detailed technical and design support to other team-members, and leading the programming, design, and construction document preparation for the projects she managed.
